The Anaerobic Biotechnology Research Lab at Washington University in St. Louis (WUStL) evaluated anaerobic digester configurations for stillage-to-methane conversion as part of a one-year, bench-scale program funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity in conjunction with the National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC) (Edwardsville, IL). The main objective of this program wasto evaluate if thin stillage should be digested into useful energy. Also, the effect of different batches of thin stillage on the long-term operation of the digesters was studied.
